On a personal note: Diapers

If you read the blog and see my postings about being green, you know I am an environmentally friendly gal. Needless to say, my new favorite channel is Planet Green… how cool is that! Wa$ted is my favorite. I love when they show segments with things that relate to me.. like BABIES.
One episode last week they talked about the amount of landfill space used my disposable diapers. Now, I understand not EVERYONE and their mothers care about the landfills. I mean, you SHOULD because all the chemicals and junk in there seeps into our soil and our water and affects all of us… but not everyone is as into saving our land as I am.
Fact:
The average baby is in diapers between two-three years and uses an average of 8,000-10,000 diapers. That’s a lot of diapers. SOURCE

Did you know also that even with disposable diapers you are supposed to dump the inside first? 99% of people just roll it up and toss it.
Isn’t that nuts?!
My husband vowed he will not change our daughters diaper if it is cloth. Disposable he is fine with changing. I know cloth can get gross–washing out the ickie stuff, having a diaper service come to get the dirtied cloths and bring you someone else’s cloths, but the benefits are so great. You aren’t putting tons of chemicals on your babies bottom, and you are doing good for the environment. AND it’s more affordable.
Being that cloth is not going to happen for us, I found the BEST solution! I am so excited.
Have you heard of gDiapers? (I will call the G for Gardner haha) If not, see their site. It’s basically a super cute outer cloth exterior with a snap in disposable liner you can FLUSH!

Gdiaper
If you are at all interested in doing something good, go for it…give it a try. I watched some videos on youtube about how to change them and how to dispose and flush and it was SO easy oh my!
Granted, we do plan to trade off with 7th generation (no chemicals like others) for traveling and what not.
Ok, I’ll step off my diaper rant.
Keep an eye out for holiday card samples coming soon!
